A Will Eternal — Chinese Cultural Concepts (Chapters 191–200)

Posted on 10/04/2026 by admin

A Will Eternal — Cultural Dictionary, Chapters 191–200

What this is: A cultural dictionary for A Will Eternal (一念永恒). Each entry explains an in-world term — a cultivation mechanic, an institution, a social custom, a title, or a cultural reference — and how it works in the world the author built. This is a reference for readers, translators, and worldbuilding enthusiasts; it is not a novel summary or plot recap.

How to use it: Find the term you want (the Chinese characters and pinyin are shown in each heading), read the explanation, and follow the Related terms line to find connected concepts. Entries are grouped in reading order so the dictionary doubles as an unfolding guide to the world.

尸峰有赏 (SHĪ FĒNG YǑU SHǍNG) — The Corpse Peak Reward

Category: Institution / sect economy / moral doctrine

Chapters 191 opens with the payoff of the 养尸坊 arc — but the interesting material is not the money. It is the reward logic, which the novel uses to define the whole sect in a single scene.

The event, stripped of drama. 白小纯’s green-furred corpse (绿毛尸) behaves impossibly: when 许小山 attacks, the corpse “commanded the entire workshop” — roughly a thousand zombie corpses shifted at once to shield 白小纯, and the strike was blocked. The 尸峰 great elder (尸峰大长老) witnesses it, exclaims 好,好,好! three times, and declares this a brand-new zombie type (前所未有的全新僵尸) — something the sect has never seen. It is immediately confiscated (carried off by the elder personally), and 白小纯 is paid:

Reward Amount Meaning
灵石 (spirit stones) 5,000 Liquid capital, enough to fund years of ordinary cultivation
贡献点 (contribution points) 30,000 The internal sect currency, spent on techniques, pills, lectures, cave dwellings
The pill formula (given to 许小山) The formula that had motivated the whole plot

The doctrine, stated bluntly. The 尸峰 great elder does not care that a workshop was wrecked, that disciples were injured, or that 白小纯 was committing flagrant fraud. His verdict is the chapter’s thesis:

血溪宗根本上讲,是魔宗,讲究的是率性,讲究的是魔心!不是一人得道,鸡犬升天,而是一将功成万骨枯!

“Blood Creek Sect is, at bottom, a demonic sect. What it prizes is spontaneity and the demonic heart. It is not ‘one man attains the Dao and his chickens and dogs rise to heaven with him’ — it is ‘one general’s success is built on ten thousand bones.'”

Unpacking the two idioms. The line is built from a paired contrast of two classical Chinese idioms, and the contrast is the doctrine:

  • 一人得道,鸡犬升天 — “when one person attains the Dao, even his chickens and dogs ascend.” A Daoist proverb (usually attached to 淮南王 Liu An and his household, who reportedly ascended with their pets) describing collective, nepotistic, harmonious ascent. In sect terms: the family model, where being related to a winner is enough.
  • 一将功成万骨枯 — “one general’s achievement is made from ten thousand withered bones.” A line from Tang poet 曹松 (“己亥岁”), among the most quoted anti-war couplets in Chinese literature: individual glory is literally built out of the dead. In sect terms: the meritocratic-carnage model, where the winner is whoever survives and nobody asks about the bodies.

The 尸峰 elder picks the second without hesitation, and adds the crucial operational corollary: 毁了区区养尸坊,算得了什么…就算是误杀了人,只要为宗门做贡献,都不算 — “what is the wrecking of one measly corpse-workshop? Even if you kill someone by mistake, as long as you contribute to the sect, it doesn’t count.”

Why this is a doctrine, not just villainy. The novel makes 白小纯 reason it through, and his conclusion is the reader’s takeaway. He notices that the sect’s leadership:

  1. Judges only outcomes. A disciple who destroys property and steals a corpse is a talent if the result is valuable.
  2. Reads trouble as potential. Some elders hold that 弟子如果闯祸越多,说明潜力越大 — “the more havoc a disciple causes, the greater the potential.”
  3. Is internally consistent about it. The same logic that rewards him would equally have ended him had he failed; it is not favoritism, it is a policy.

The “demonic heart” as a value. 率性 (“following one’s nature/spontaneity”) and 魔心 (“the demonic heart”) are the sect’s official virtues. Note this is a genuine cultivation-ethical position, not merely a label: the 魔道 school in xianxia is often defined precisely by the claim that uninhibited will is a faster path to power than restraint. Blood Creek says the quiet part out loud and builds an institution on it. The cost, which 白小纯 sees plainly, is a sect with no solidarity, no trust, and no shame — which is also why the sect’s internal politics are so savage, and why 吃独食 (below) is considered impressive rather than shameful.

Practical effects on the community. Two consequences show up immediately in later chapters:

Sect value Observable effect
率性 (spontaneity) Disciples rob and drain areas freely; elders assume this is normal
魔心 (demonic heart) Practicing 血殺界 by injuring others is a legitimate training method
Results-only judgment 白小纯 becomes a prized 护法 while being actively hunted for theft
No solidarity 中峰’s cultivators cannot maintain a coordinated manhunt for more than a few days (ch199)

圣丹残壁 (SHÈNG DĀN CÁN BÌ) — The Broken Wall of the Holy Pill

Category: Location / artifact / sect history

The 内门 (inner sect) area of Blood Creek contains exactly two places the novel flags as mysterious. One is the 万血崖 (below). The other is a broken stone wall, three people tall.

What it physically is. A 残壁 — a ruined remnant of a wall, not a monument, not a building: the surviving fragment of something larger that no longer exists. The novel is careful to note it is unimpressive to the eye (不出奇). This is a recurring aesthetic in xianxia: the most valuable things are the ones that look like nothing.

What it does. Those with sufficient 悟性 (comprehension / insight) who sit before it see 炼药的幻影 — illusions of pill-refining — and from watching those illusions can comprehend the Dao of medicine (丹药之道). This is a comprehension-site (悟道之地), a category of location in which the world grants understanding rather than objects. The wall does not teach a technique; it shows a process, and the cultivator must reverse-engineer the principles.

Its history, which carries the lesson. The wall is a stolen relic:

Time Event
~10,000 years ago 血溪宗 takes it from 丹溪宗 (Pill Creek Sect)
After 丹溪宗 repeatedly attempts to buy it back — offers refused
~8,000 years ago A pill genius (丹药天才) uses the wall to create 不死血丹, a world-shaking great pill (惊天动地的大丹)
Present Few can gain insight from it at all; the impostor 夜葬 sat before it a long time and got nothing

Why the war matters here. Chapters 197–198 reveal that 血溪宗 and 丹溪宗 are drifting into war — first small-scale, then large-scale — and the wall is one of the long-standing grievances underneath it. In a genre where wars usually have cosmic stakes, the novel grounds this one in intellectual property: a sect that lost its masterwork and never stopped wanting it back.

The insight test as status marker. The wall functions socially as a filter. Since comprehension cannot be faked or purchased, sitting at the wall and succeeding is one of the few unimpeachable merit signals in a sect that otherwise rewards results and ruthlessness. The novel uses it to locate 血梅少主: she is shown seated beneath it, silently advertising that she is one of the few who can read it. When 白小纯 arrives on 中峰, he is drawn to the wall’s vicinity — and the reader should remember that 白小纯’s single greatest asset, throughout the entire series, is his abnormal 悟性.

The 不死血丹 connection. The name of the pill is the payload. 不死血丹 — Undying Blood Pill — contains both characters that 白小纯’s own path is built on: 不死 (undying; his 不死长生功 and 不死金刚卷) and 血 (blood; the entire Blood Creek inheritance). The 8,000-year-ago genius who read the wall and made this pill is therefore doing foreshadowing work: the wall is a crossroads where the sect’s blood-arts and the undying-arts meet, which is exactly the intersection 白小纯 is standing on in chapters 196–198.

万血崖与万血深渊 (WÀN XUÈ YÁ YǓ WÀN XUÈ SHĒN YUĀN) — Myriad Blood Cliff and Myriad Blood Abyss

Category: Geography / secret realm / sect institution

The second of 内门’s two mysterious places, and the site of the second Foundation Establishment trial. The name rewards unpacking: 万 (“myriad / ten thousand”), 血 (“blood”), 崖 (“cliff”), 深渊 (“abyss”).

What it is, in-world. It is a ravine on the back of the giant hand — 血祖巨手, the enormous severed hand that forms the geography of Blood Creek Sect. The novel states it was formed from an old wound (曾经的伤口) on that hand, and was later converted into a small secret realm (小秘境) by the sect.

This is the signature move of the novel’s cosmology: the landscape is a body, and its damage is real estate. A scar on a god’s hand becomes a training ground because a wound is, structurally, a container — a depression that holds things.

What it contains.

Feature Description
四叶草 (four-leaf herbs) A Blood Creek specialty, low-key valuable; the source of 四色火, the four-colored flame
火山 (volcanoes) 四叶草 grows inside the volcanoes, making the harvest lethally hot work
血兽 (blood-beasts) Mindless killing beasts — incomplete life condensed by the hand itself
迷宫式隧道 (maze tunnels) Natural lava-tube maze; the reason escape is possible

血兽 — the interesting category. The novel’s description is precise and worth quoting for worldbuilding: 血兽 are 没有理智的杀戮之兽 (beasts of pure slaughter without reason), described as 生命 incomplete — life-forms the great hand condenses by itself (自身凝聚出来的不完全的生命), which attack any intruder. Some are above Foundation Establishment (筑基以上).

The category matters because it implies the hand is not dead. It manufactures life, badly, and the results are hostile. This is the same principle as the 血祖巨手’s healing pulse and the 不死长生功’s dependence on it: the hand is an ongoing biological process, and the sect is squatting inside it.

Why 四叶草 / 四色火 is the real prize. The abyss is not a combat gauntlet, it is a resource map. The trial is nominally about surviving and reaching Foundation Establishment, but the elder economy of the sect trades four-leaf herbs at high value. This drops the reader into Blood Creek’s real economy: cultivation resources are farmed from the sect’s own god-corpse landscape, and the disciples are the harvest labor.

The trial structure (ch192–196), documented as an institution rather than an event:

Parameter Value
Eligibility 二次筑基试炼资格 — second Foundation Establishment trial qualification
Timing 三日后正午 — noon, three days later
Location 万血崖, chosen by the four great elders
Participants 37 (三十七人)
Duration One month (一个月时限)
The prize One bottle holding 10 筑基丹, thrown into the abyss
The rule Take it and use it to reach Foundation Establishment
The reward for success Choice of a peak, and the rank of 护法
Failure Left in the abyss; no refund of the term

Reading the rule as policy. The design is deliberate and cruel in a way the novel expects you to notice:

  1. The pills are communal but not divisible in practice. One bottle, ten pills, thirty-seven contenders — the sect has manufactured a scarcity auction and told everyone to bid with their lives.
  2. No distribution rule. Nothing says the pills must be shared. This licenses 吃独食 (below), which the four great elders then explicitly admire.
  3. The month is a limiter, not a safety net. The abyss itself supplies no pills; the point of the month is to let the survivors grind each other down.
  4. The prize is a rank, not a resource. Success buys a position in the sect’s hierarchy — which is a much stronger incentive than currency, because the hierarchy is where the blood-qi and the caves are.

The four great elders who officiate. The trial’s opening scene is the novel’s formal introduction of the four peaks’ leadership — see the separate entry below.

四峰大长老 (SÌ FĒNG DÀ ZHǍNG LǍO) — The Four Great Elders of the Peaks

Category: Institution / hierarchy / dramatis personae

The sect’s four inner-sect peaks each have a ruling elder, and chapter 192 assembles all four at the abyss for the first time. Treat this as the org chart of Blood Creek’s mid-tier.

The four peaks and their elders.

Peak Elder Physical signature Stated disposition
少泽峰 (unnamed tall man) 龟裂 cracked skin; a 大手虚影 (giant-hand phantom) about him 有魄力 — “has guts”; approves of 白小纯 immediately
无名峰 (unnamed, a dwarf) Rides a 魔头 formed of fog Scarcity-minded; wants possession of 白小纯
尸峰 the wrinkled elder with 年轻人的朝气 (youthful vitality in an old face) Sits in a small group; interested in nothing but corpses and zombie types Rewards results only; the 一将功成万骨枯 speech is his
中峰 宋君婉 (Sòng Jūnwǎn) A fully mature, fiery beauty with red hair and deliberately revealing attire Playful, dangerous, in direct rivalry with 血梅

Reading the four as a set of sect ideologies. The novel is doing more than introducing faces; each elder is a theory of how to run a demonic sect, and their reactions to 白小纯 during the trial are the proof:

  • 少泽峰: valor. His praise is 有魄力,适合血溪宗 — “has guts, suited to Blood Creek.” He wants aggressive talent.
  • 无名峰: monopoly. His line is 绝了所有人的筑基之路…我无名峰要了 — “he cut off everyone else’s road to Foundation Establishment — My Unnamed Peak wants him.” He values the ability to dominate a resource.
  • 尸峰: productivity. He wants 养尸天赋 and 奇才 — corpse-raising talent and genius. Nothing else.
  • 中峰 (宋君婉): possibility. Her reaction is the most deliberate: 印象更深 — “her impression went deeper.” She is the one assessing him as a person, not a capability.

为什么这四个人物重要。 Between the four great elders (peak leadership) and the 太上长老 (supreme elders, who give monthly lectures and rank higher) and the 老祖 / 血擘 at the top, the sect is a layered gerontocracy with four rival power centers at the middle layer. This explains nearly all of Blood Creek’s behavior: internal competition is not an aberration, it is the organizing principle. Hence the recruitment auction in chapter 196, where all four openly bid for one 护法 candidate in front of each other.

宋君婉, specifically — because she is the chapter-arc’s most consequential new character:

  • She is 中峰’s great elder (大长老), and therefore the co-contender with 血梅 for the 血子 seat of 中峰.
  • She is 宋缺’s 小姑 — his father’s younger sister, i.e. his paternal aunt. 白小纯 jokes privately that by calling her 宋姐姐 he thereby becomes an entire generation senior to 宋缺.
  • Her trial design is her personality in miniature: she does not hand out the pills, she throws the whole bottle into the abyss — maximum chaos, maximum information about the candidates.
  • She gives 白小纯 a 玉佩 (jade pendant) at the end of the trial — a small, private signal, contrasted with 尸峰’s public 令牌.
  • She is described as dangerous in a specific way: her smiles make 白小纯 feel a danger (危险感) even when she is being friendly.

护法与长老 (HÙ FǍ YǓ ZHǍNG LǍO) — Protector-Elders and Elders

Category: Institution / ranks / political economy

Two titles whose precise difference the novel never bothers to define in exposition — so here is the working distinction, assembled from usage across chapters 191–200.

护法 (hùfǎ) — “Protector of the Law.” Literally guardian of the dharma/law. In this sect it denotes a ranked cultivator with a station and a dwelling but not senior authority. Key facts established:

Fact Detail
How obtained By reaching Foundation Establishment in the trial, then choosing a peak
What comes with it A cave dwelling (洞府) on that peak, plus standing
How dwellings are allocated 37 vacant 护法 caves on 中峰; you may seize a better one from a fellow disciple if you are strong enough
Social tone Older 护法 order newer ones around; 白小纯 is repeatedly driven off good blood-qi spots by them

The 37 vacancies are a lovely piece of worldbuilding arithmetic: the sect is not full of idle rooms, it has exactly as many slots as the trial created contenders. The housing market is the power ladder, and the sect openly licenses internal displacement (抢 — seize) as a legitimate method.

长老 (zhǎnglǎo) — “Elder.” A senior rank above 护法. In this arc it is used broadly: the four great elders are 大长老, and 血梅 is described as 中峰的长老 despite her youth (she is a 少主 — an heir — and her elder-ship is inherited status as much as earned rank). Note the 大长老 (great elder) form is the one that matters politically.

The hierarchy, assembled. Reading across the arc, Blood Creek’s ladder is roughly:

“`

老祖 (Ancestor) ← 无极老祖 etc.; effectively divine

↑

血魔 (Blood Demon) ← legendary, above the 老祖 (see below)

↑

血擘 (Blood-Thumb) ← former 血子 who reached Golden Core; lives on 祖峰

↑

太上长老 (Supreme Elders) ← give monthly 闻道 lectures; cost 贡献点 to attend

↑

四峰大长老 (Four Great Elders)

↑

血子 (Blood Son/Heir) — a title, contested per-peak

↑

长老 / 护法

↑

弟子 (disciples: 内门 / 外门)

“`

Two features worth flagging.

  1. Rank is bought with contribution, not only with cultivation. Monthly 闻道 (wéndào — “hearing the Dao”) lectures by 太上长老 cost 贡献点 to attend. So the sect runs a two-currency economy: 灵石 (external-ish wealth) and 贡献点 (internal merit), and the right to learn is priced in the second. The 30,000 贡献点 from 尸峰 (ch191) is therefore not pocket money — it is tuition.
  1. The dwelling-and-blood-qi economy is physical. Since 血殺界 requires ambient blood-qi and blood-qi concentrates unevenly across the peaks, where you live determines how fast you grow. That is why the good caves are fought over, why the 37 vacancies matter, and why 白小纯’s night-raiding (ch198–200) is such a provocatively destructive crime: he is stealing other people’s growth rate, and the victims’ rage is proportionally murderous.

吃独食 (CHĪ DÚ SHÍ) — “Eating Alone”

Category: Idiom / social evaluation / reader-culture

An entry that is really about the novel’s comedy mechanics, because the chapter named for this idiom is where the book’s running joke about 白小纯’s greed gets its clearest articulation.

The literal meaning. 吃独食 = “to eat the food alone” — i.e. to keep a windfall entirely for oneself instead of sharing. In Chinese it is a mild, everyday criticism: the person who splits a group bonus, the colleague who takes credit. It carries a whiff of selfishness but also, faintly, of chutzpah, since it implies the person got away with it.

What happens in chapter 193. 宋君婉 throws one bottle of ten 筑基丹 into the abyss; thirty-odd contenders dive after it. 白小纯 gets there first — using only 凝气 (Qi Condensation) power, since his mask conceals his real cultivation — and then does not hand out a single pill. He simply runs deeper, with everyone chasing him.

The twist: the elders approve. The four great elders, watching from the cliff, do not condemn him. They admire him, and the novel names the behavior with the idiom. Each elder’s praise maps onto his own priorities (see 四峰大长老):

Elder Praise
少泽峰 有魄力 — has guts
宋君婉 印象更深 — her impression went deeper
无名峰 绝了所有人的筑基之路…我无名峰要了 — cut off everyone’s road; I want him
尸峰 养尸天赋, 奇才 — corpse-raising gift, a prodigy

Why this is funny, structurally. The scene is a catalogue joke. The reader already knows 白小纯 is a liar with a hoarding compulsion; the sect’s elite have just seen him steal the entire prize pool and vanish; and every one of them reads the theft as evidence of virtue. The demonic-sect doctrine (率性, 魔心, 一将功成万骨枯) has been constructed three chapters earlier precisely so that this payoff lands: in a sect that prizes the demonic heart, eating alone is the correct behavior, and the only reason the other contestants are angry is that they are weaker.

The moral inversion, stated precisely. In a righteous sect (like 灵溪宗), 吃独食 would be a transgression. In Blood Creek it is a credential. The same act, appraised by the same word, flips from vice to talent depending on the institution’s stated values — which is the novel’s cleanest demonstration that Blood Creek’s ethics are not merely lax, they are inverted on purpose.

Its echo in later chapters. The idiom’s logic persists through the arc: 白小纯 keeps doing scaled-up versions — faking pills (ch194), draining a sect elder’s own cave (ch199), and finally draining 血梅少主’s private hoard (ch199–200). Each time the sect’s response follows a curve: amusement → interest → recruitment → murder. The novel is showing that 吃独食 is tolerated exactly as long as the eater is useful, and never one step further.

假丹 (JIǍ DĀN) — The Fake Pills

Category: Plot device / tradecraft / sect economy

A small but very characteristic piece of con-artist worldbuilding, and the chapter where 白小纯’s fraud becomes a product rather than a disguise.

The method. Having hoarded all ten genuine 筑基丹, 白小纯 manufactures a counterfeit batch out of ordinary second-tier pills. The technique is specific and persuasive:

  1. Take ordinary second-tier pills (二阶丹药) as the base — real pills, correctly refined, just the wrong grade and the wrong kind.
  2. Dust them with fragments/scrapings of genuine 筑基丹 (用筑基丹的碎末).
  3. Result: pills that smell and read as foundation pills to a casual examination, but contain a trace rather than a full dose.

Why only an 药师 could have done it. The novel states the tell outright: when one of the fake pills is finally cracked open, everyone realizes only a pill-master (药师) could have produced this. The forgery requires knowing what makes a foundation pill register — the surface markers that a cultivator’s senses parse — and manufacturing them cheaply. This is authentic pharmacology-grade fraud: it works because the buyers authenticate by appearance, aura, and smell, not by assay.

What the fakes are used for. In chapter 194 he uses them as a crowd-control weapon: pursued, he scatters the fakes. Everyone fights over them — and then one is opened, and the deception is exposed. Two effects follow:

Effect Consequence
Immediate He escapes the pursuit while the crowd brawls over worthless pills
Reputational The forgeries establish that a high-grade pill-master is loose in the trial — which later becomes part of why the elders want him

The real-world/craft resonance. Counterfeiting a high-value, authenticatable-but-hard-to-assay good is an ancient human trade (seals, coins, medicines, later documents and artworks). The novel’s version has a nice internal logic: in a cultivation economy, pills are the main portable store of value after spirit stones, and their authenticity is checked by feel. That makes them the perfect target — and it makes an 药师’s skill weaponizable, not merely productive.

Why it matters beyond comedy. 白小纯’s 药师 identity is his most protective long-term asset. The fake pills are the first hint in this arc that Blood Creek’s elites will value his knowledge more than his cultivation, because a sect whose specialty is blood-pills (血溪 / 丹溪 rivalry, 圣丹残壁, 不死血丹) has a permanent shortage of people who truly understand 丹药之道.

魂血为奴 (HÚN XUÈ WÉI NÚ) — Soul-Blood Servitude

Category: Cultivation mechanic / contract magic / social institution

Introduced in chapter 195 with 赵无常’s kneeling pledge, this is the soul-level oath technology that underlies much of the sect’s power structure. It is worth treating carefully because the novel is precise about its mechanics and its price.

The technique. 魂血 (húnxuè) = soul-blood: a droplet drawn from the soul itself, not merely from the body’s blood. The caster:

  1. Splits off a droplet of soul-blood (魂血) — an act that inherently damages the soul.
  2. Hands it over to the person they wish to serve or bind.
  3. The recipient thereby gains a kill-switch over the giver’s life — 白小纯 feels it as a murder-thought (杀念) resting over 赵无常, and notes that the sensation is similar to 驭人大法 (the puppeteering art he learned earlier).

The price to the giver. The novel is explicit: 以如今的修为运转,反噬极大 — “circulating it at his current cultivation level, the backlash is severe.” 赵无常 spits blood performing the split. So the technique scales with the giver’s strength: a weak cultivator pays in serious soul-injury, which is precisely the situation of anyone desperate enough to use it.

The price to the receiver — and why it is not free. 白小纯’s reaction is telling. He accepts, but the narration notes he now carries a burden too: a life for which he is responsible, hanging on his own soul, with the same technology that binds 赵无常 also making 白小纯 hostage to 赵无常’s desperation. The contract is symmetric in the way real indenture is: it converts one person’s future into the other’s asset, and both are diminished.

The terms. 赵无常’s offer, verbatim in structure:

夜护法,你若能让我筑基,赵某愿为奴一甲子!

“Protector Ye — if you can bring me to Foundation Establishment, this Zhao will serve as your slave for one 甲子.”

一甲子 = sixty years, the full traditional Chinese sexagenary cycle (天干地支 — the ten heavenly stems paired with twelve earthly branches, giving 60 combinations, and thus the Chinese reckoning of a “generation” of years). The unit is not decorative: it is the standard long-form contract length in a world where cultivators live centuries. Selling sixty years is selling the rest of a normal human life.

The comparison set — three graded oath technologies. The novel now has a small family of soul-binding mechanics, and placing them side by side shows how the world’s “contract law” works:

Technique Instrument Who pays Enforceability
魂禁 (soul-seal) Imposed externally by 夜葬 on himself / the mysterious sect on him The bound party, involuntarily Absolute; cannot be escaped by disguise
驭人大法 (puppeteering art) A control art used to override will The victim, wholly Temporarily absolute; requires the user’s presence
魂血 (soul-blood) Voluntarily surrendered droplet of the soul Both parties Absolute once given; binding on the soul

The crucial distinction: 魂血 is consensual. This is what the novel wants the reader to notice. 赵无常 is not tricked; he kneels and offers, because for him a life of servitude that reaches Foundation Establishment beats a life of freedom that never will. The scene’s quiet horror is that the offer is rational.

Why the sect produces this. The narration supplies the analysis. 赵无常’s willingness is not personal weakness but an institutional product: 血溪宗之所以强盛…这种环境下成长出来的弟子…强悍程度…不是其他宗门弟子可比 — the disciples this environment produces are harsher than those of other sects. And it adds the mechanism: 归属感 (“a sense of belonging”) — 只要血溪宗始终强盛…就如同一个巨大的车轮,可以碾压一切欲挑战规则者…最好的选择,就是融入进去 — “as long as Blood Creek stays strong, it is like a giant wheel that can crush anyone who challenges the rules; the best choice is to merge into it.”

That is the best statement of the sect’s social contract in the whole arc. Blood Creek offers protection from itself in exchange for everything else, and rational actors take the deal because the alternative is being crushed by the wheel.

Zhao’s later position. At the trial’s end he stands behind and slightly deferential to 白小纯 — a small staging detail with large meaning: the four great elders read it instantly, and 白小纯’s stock jumps because he has apparently subdued a fellow Foundation Establishment cultivator. The sect does not see the relationship as pitiable. It sees it as an asset.

中峰秘术 血殺界 (ZHŌNG FĒNG MÌ SHÙ — XUÈ SHĀ JIÈ) — Blood-Slaughter Realm

Category: Cultivation art / technique / doctrinal analysis

The arc’s most important technique lore, and the chapter where the novel explains why Blood Creek’s signature art is a broken version of something greater.

What the art is. Received in chapter 197 as a blood-red jade slip (血玉简) from the 中峰 reception elder, 血殺界 is described in one clause:

以血气凝剑,形成殺界 — “condense a sword from blood-qi, forming a realm of slaughter.”

The feedback loop that makes it a demonic art. 无论是伤人还是受伤,都会刺激血气,使得血剑更强 — both dealing injury and receiving injury stimulate blood-qi, strengthening the blood-sword. This single sentence is the entire ethical architecture of the art. It is not a weapon you swing; it is a feedback circuit in which pain — yours or someone else’s — is the fuel. In practical sect terms, that makes 血殺界:

  • Cheaper to train by attacking people than by meditating;
  • Fairly effective even when losing, since being wounded charges the blade;
  • Self-reinforcing under the sect’s normal operating conditions, which are violent by default.

Its origin. Created by a Blood Creek ancestor who was inspired by studying the 血祖巨手 — the giant hand. This connects the art directly to the sect’s founding relic: 血殺界 is a human attempt to copy a divine process. The hand makes blood into force; the art makes blood into a sword.

The novice experience, and where it goes wrong. 白小纯 receives it as a formula and a method and practices by the book. His first attempts are clumsy (笨拙) — the standard method is slow, demanding that the cultivator pull in ambient blood-qi from outside and then forcibly convert his own blood to match it. Note the two-step inefficiency:

  1. You must find a blood-qi-rich place (hence the whole geography of the sect, and hence the fight over caves).
  2. You must injure yourself or others to keep the conversion going.

That is why Blood Creek’s cultivators live where they live and behave how they behave. The art’s demands generated the sect’s culture.

The insight — the art is degenerate. 白小纯’s breakthrough is not more effort, it is diagnosis. He runs his own 不死长生功 alongside the formula, draws ambient blood-qi in through his body, and spins it into a one-foot blood-sword at his fingertip in a few breaths — a speed nobody has matched; the novel notes the fastest recorded genius took a full day. From this he deduces the true structure:

血溪宗 has nobody with genuine 不死血 (undying blood). Therefore they rely on absorbing external blood-qi and forcibly converting their own blood. Hence the need for external blood-qi, and hence the need to injure and be injured to add power.

The sect’s art is a degenerate version (退化版) because it was reverse-engineered from the hand by people who lacked the hand’s key ingredient. They watched the divine process, copied the visible machinery, and never had the blood that makes it work — so they substituted quantity of borrowed blood-qi for quality of innate blood, and the substitution is why the technique is slow, self-harming, and location-dependent.

His correction: 不死血剑. Having identified the missing ingredient, 白小纯 does what the sect cannot: he forcibly squeezes out a thread of his own genuine 不死血 — a resource he has because of 不死金皮, the 不死金刚卷, and the hand’s nourishment — and forms the 不死血剑 (the true 血殺界). Two consequences:

Consequence Meaning
Immediate A 杀手锏 (trump card) far above his apparent cultivation
Long-term His first real contact with the 不死血 realm — the top tier of the final volume — arrived years early

The genre resonance. This is the classic “the widely-taught move is a degraded copy of a true art” trope (Nine Yang Manual, Dugu Nine Swords‘ broken lineage, countless others). The novel earns its version by grounding the degradation in biology and logistics: it is not that the ancestors were stupid, it is that they lacked the raw material, and their workaround became doctrine. Which also gives the reader a new way to read the entire sect: 血溪宗 is a civilization built on a missing enzyme.

不死金刚卷 第一层 — 十象蛮鬼身 (SHÍ XIÀNG MÁN GUǏ SHĒN) — Ten-Elephant Savage-Ghost Body

Category: Cultivation mechanic / body-refining / milestone

The 不死金刚卷 gets its first completed layer in this arc, and the milestone deserves its own entry because the novel treats body-refining differently from qi-refining.

The naming pattern, first — because it is the mechanic. The layers are named by a multiplier and a form, and the multiplier is the count of an animal’s worth of strength. Established so far:

Layer Name Strength unit Nature
1 十象蛮鬼身 象 (elephant) 蛮鬼 — “savage ghost”
2 十鬼天妖身 鬼 (ghost) 天妖 — “heavenly demon”
3 十妖修罗身 妖 (demon) 修罗 — “asura”
4 不死金刚身 — the 金刚 (vajra/indestructible) body itself

Read the progression as a ladder of increasingly divine beings, each counted ten times: ten elephants → ten ghosts → ten demons → the diamond body. The elephant is the classical Chinese strength metaphor (力大如象, and the elephant as a unit of load); the ghost, the demon, and the asura climb the Buddhist/Hindu pantheon; the vajra (金刚) is the indestructible adamantine body of Buddhist iconography. The whole art is a staircase from beast to god, and each rung is quantified.

The ×10 chain. Each layer internally goes one → ten of its unit. The novel shows the last stretch explicitly:

  • 三象 (three elephant-shadows visible behind him, ch192) →
  • seven (七象) by the end of the night-raiding campaign (ch199) →
  • 八象、九象 →
  • 十象 at the moment of breakthrough (ch200).

What the breakthrough feels like — a well-written mechanic. The description is worth parsing because it is a coherent physical event:

  1. A hum in the mind (脑海嗡的一声); countless cracking sounds inside the body, inaudible to others but like rolling thunder to the cultivator.
  2. Aching numbness floods outward through all flesh and blood, down to the last hair-tip (每一根发梢,每一寸血肉).
  3. A pause — then the spreading vibration reverses, rushing back from every part and converging at the chest, where it fuses into one point (交汇之下,融合归一).
  4. That point becomes a momentum of immense strength (力大无穷的气势).
  5. The flesh forms whorls (漩涡) that suck in ambient blood-qi — the mechanism that makes the art location-dependent and, incidentally, caused this whole disaster for 白小纯.
  6. 量变到质变 — quantity becomes quality: 凝十象之力,化…蛮鬼之身.
  7. He opens his eyes with a faint savage-ghost silhouette behind him, blurred now, but destined to become clear within a few months of 酝养 (nurturing).

The narrative function of the whorls. The whorl step is the chapter’s engine. Earlier 白小纯 survived his raids by strict self-restraint: he absorbed only from the target cave and refused to pull in the surrounding blood-qi, which kept his own aura silent. At the breakthrough the whorls make restraint impossible — 他身体的震动不受控制,形成了漩涡 — and the light show begins, which is precisely what draws 血梅 and then the entire 中峰 down on him. The power-up causes the crisis: a clean example of the novel using mechanical consistency (not coincidence) to launch a plot beat.

The combat payoff: 撼山撞 (hànshānzhuàng). Chapter 199 promises it: 很快就要十象了,不死金刚第一层就要成功,撼山撞也可以施展了 — “soon it will be ten elephants, the first layer will succeed, and Rock-Shaking Ram can be used.” The name is a farming/terrain metaphor — a blow that shakes a mountain — consistent with the 不死金刚卷’s identity as a melee, physical, brute-force art in a sect of qi-and-blood arts. Its counterpart in the Fierce Beast volume was 十象之力; here the elephant count finally reaches ten.

夜间吸血气 (YÈ JIĀN XĪ XUÈ QÌ) — The Night Blood-Qi Draining Campaign

Category: Social dynamic / sect custom / comedy-of-errors

Chapters 198–200 are, structurally, a manhunt arc, and the novel uses it to demonstrate three things at once: how the sect’s power economy works physically, how its social cohesion fails, and how 白小纯’s cowardice is a genuine tactical discipline.

The premise. Foundation Establishment blood-qi concentrates unevenly across the peaks. 白小纯’s own cave on 中峰 is not rich enough to feed a first-layer 不死金刚卷 breakthrough. So he does what the sect’s doctrine of 率性 implicitly licenses: he goes out at night and absorbs blood-qi from other people’s territories.

The victim experience. For the local cultivators this is catastrophic in a very specific way. Blood-qi loss (血气减少) is not cosmetic — it directly starves their cultivation. The novel quantifies it: nearby Foundation Establishment cultivators detect a drop of at least seventy percent (七成) in their ambient blood-qi. And the damage is worse than lost time:

  • Cultivators mid-breakthrough suffer 反噬 (backlash) when their blood-qi suddenly thins; several spit blood.
  • Some are pushed into unstable cultivation (修为险些不稳).
  • Everyone is forced to stop night training entirely for a period.

This is the mechanic that turns theft into assault. 白小纯 is not taking coins; he is interrupting biological processes, and the sect’s own arts are feedback systems that punish interruption.

The comedy sequence, in order. The arc’s joke is that the crime spree escalates while the criminal hides in plain sight:

Day 白小纯 中峰 cultivators
1–2 Raids; flees Detect losses; begin searching
3–4 Switches zones each night; two inhalations then leaves 神算子 is ruined mid-divination (see below)
5+ Continues; joins search parties himself, eyes rubbed red to match Rumor campaign begins; kill-intent (杀意) grows
Mid Waits out the heat, then resumes 哼着小曲 (humming a tune) Coordinated zone patrols — a rare cohesion
Late Finds an unpatrolled zone and escalates to ten inhalations a night They break into wild rage; multiple 反噬
15 days in 血剑 firms; 不死金刚 reaches 七象 神算子, still injured, cannot divine for them
End Sets up camp beside the empty-looking cave 神算子 recovers enough to cast again

Two details that carry the satire.

  1. He joins the manhunt. During the search he walks with the crowd, voice shrill, face furious, playing the victim (他尖锐的嗓音,愤怒的神情,仿佛受害者一样) — and nobody suspects him. Later, since everyone’s eyes are bloodshot with rage, he rubs his eyes until they are blood-red too before going out. This is 白小纯’s defining skill set in miniature: not strength, but ensemble acting.
  1. The sect’s cohesion is fake. 白小纯’s core gambit is patience grounded in a correct sociological prediction: 这血溪宗内修士之间并非团结,几天的时间也就散了 — “these cultivators are not united; in a few days it will all fall apart.” He is right. The one time the sect achieves real coordination — a patrol per zone — it lasts days, costs enormous effort, and is broken by a single loophole: one cave with an owner and no patrol, because nobody wanted to walk past a superior’s gate.

That loophole is the whole sect in one detail. The manhunt fails not because 白小纯 is clever but because the sect’s hierarchy prevents it from policing its own elite’s territory. The final irony is perfect: the cave he camps beside belongs to 血梅少主 — the single most feared person on 中峰.

神算子与天机术 (SHÉN SUÀN ZǏ YǓ TIĀN JĪ SHÙ) — The Divine Calculator and Heaven-Machine Arts

Category: Character / divination art / genre mechanic

A new named character who exists to give the arc a detection mechanic — and, in the classic fashion, a detection mechanic with a vulnerability.

Who he is. 神算子 — literally “the Divine Calculator,” a sobriquet/title rather than a birth name (the novel never gives his real one). He is described as 中峰筑基修士里,名气最大的一个 of those skilled in 衍算 (derivation and calculation). Divination talent is rare, which makes him a scarce resource: 擅长衍算之人不多.

天机术 — the art, and its genre roots. 天机 (tiānjī) = “the mechanisms of Heaven” — fate, the hidden machinery of cause and effect. 天机术 is the standard xianxia name for divination/calculation arts, which trace back to the I Ching (易经) and the correlative cosmology of 术数 (the “techniques of number”): the assumption that events, being patterned, can be read if one has the right apparatus. Two genre rules apply, and the novel honors both:

  1. It costs. Divination here is 身体力行 and expensive — 神算子 must be nourished by ambient blood-qi while working (that is why he needs a quiet zone), and the work is so demanding that it cannot be interrupted: 一旦进行,就不可终止.
  2. It can be blocked. The novel’s implicit rule is that Heaven’s mechanisms resist reading — hence 反噬 (backlash) when the process fails. A diviner is not a spy camera; he is a person doing something hard and dangerous.

The Blood Butterfly. His signature output: a blood-colored butterfly (血色蝴蝶) that flies from his fingertip and travels to the target, with the crowd following it. Note the function: the butterfly does not describe a location, it is a moving pointer. This is why his method is so oppressive — it cannot be reasoned with, only outrun.

The double ruination, which is the arc’s tightest joke. The chapter sequence builds a two-beat disaster:

  • Beat one: 神算子 begins a divination; 白小纯 unknowingly drains the zone; the blood-qi drained away mid-ritual; the art cannot be interrupted, so the failure is violent — he vomits blood and collapses, unconscious for a full day.
  • Beat two: He wakes furious — 是谁暗算我!! — and casts to find the culprit. The culprit’s silhouette is just forming when 白小纯 wanders by and drains the area again. Starved of nourishment a second time mid-cast, the injuries erupt and he vomits blood and collapses again. He is left too weak to work for at least a month.

Why it works as comedy. The rhyme is exact and cruel: the man whose art reveals the truth is prevented from revealing it by the very crime he is trying to reveal. And because he is the sect’s only major diviner, his month of incapacity is what allows the raids to continue: 偏偏他如今养伤,无法继续去算,以至于整个中峰下指,积压的怒气越来越大 — the sect’s rage accumulates with nowhere to go, because its one scanner is offline. The plot’s tension is generated by a staffing shortage.

His role at the arc’s end. Once recovered, he works again and the butterflies start finding 白小纯 reliably — and here the novel closes a loop. Even a diviner of 神算子’s grade is only partially effective: the chase of chapter 200 lasts half a day and still fails (追丢了), and 神算子 has to spend his own health to try again: 我神算子拼了受伤,也要去算一算此人在何处. Meanwhile 白小纯’s 假夜葬 identity included only a 皮毛 (smattering) of 天机 arts — useful for cover, useless against a specialist. The arc leaves him with a permanent, named, motivated enemy: 夜葬, 我神算子与你不死不休!

The moral he voices. His own summary of the affair is also the novel’s summary: not 天灾 (natural calamity) but 有人不知用什么方法,抽走了四周的血气 — “someone, by some means, is drawing the blood-qi away.” He is the only character in the arc who diagnoses the situation correctly, and the reader is invited to enjoy the fact that being right does not help him at all.

学舌兔 (XUÉ SHÉ TÙ) — The Mimicking Rabbit

Category: Running mystery / motif / recurring character

This entry exists for continuity rather than for plot, because the rabbit is the series’ longest-running unexplained presence and it appears again in this arc.

What it is. A rabbit that mimics speech (学舌 = “to repeat/ap after hearing”, i.e. to parrot). It appears at intervals throughout the story, and the novel never explains it. What the reader is given, consistently:

Property Observation
Speech It repeats and parrots; it does not converse
Attitude to 白小纯 It shows familiarity/affection (亲切) toward him
Crucially It does so even while he is disguised as 夜葬
Effect It terrifies 白小纯 out of all proportion to its size

The disguise-piercing detail is the whole point. 白小纯’s 夜葬 disguise is robust enough to fool the four great elders, the sect’s inner disciples, and a professional diviner. The rabbit is unaffected. This is a deliberate authorial choice: it plants the suspicion that the rabbit perceives something category-different from appearance — that it recognizes him rather than his face. That makes it a private continuity thread linking the earlier relic-world arcs to the Blood Creek arc, and one the reader is expected to remember across hundreds of chapters.

Its scene in this arc (ch194). Encountered again inside the 血兽-infested tunnels of the 万血深渊. The chapter’s use of it is atmospheric: it appears, shows recognition, and then escapes giant blood-worms — a hint that it navigates the abyss better than 白小纯 does. It neither helps nor harms him. It merely notices him, at a moment when being noticed is the most dangerous thing in the world, and leaves.

Why the novel never explains it. Comparable figures in the genre — a recurring animal that follows the protagonist without explanation — usually pay off much later as either a hidden senior (a great cultivator in animal form), a karmic debt, or a cosmic witness. The functional purpose now is different and worth naming: the rabbit is 白小纯’s one recurring reminder that he does not understand the world he is living in. He survives by lying about what he is. The rabbit is the one thing that is not fooled, and its mere presence is enough to break his composure.

神秘宗门第四次现身 (SHÉN MÌ ZŌNG MÉN) — The Mysterious Sect’s Fourth Visit

Category: Institution (unknown) / plot engine / cosmology

The arc’s largest structural beat, and the fourth appearance of the organization that has been using 白小纯 from the start. This entry assembles the mechanics, since the novel deliberately keeps them fragmentary.

The delivery mechanism, which is unusually visual. The contact happens at night, and 白小纯’s shadow distorts. Then the floor itself becomes a transparent window into another place, described as 如镜子外看向镜子内 — “as if looking from outside a mirror to inside it.” Note the choice: not a portal, not a dream, but a refractive frame. The other world is not elsewhere; it is co-located and inverted.

This is the fourth distinct modality in the series for these visits (prior ones involved a different apparition logic), and the pattern matters: the sect does not travel, it shifts the viewpoint. And there is a detail the novel plants deliberately — in the envoy’s world, it is daytime. Since 白小纯 always contacts them at night, the two worlds are out of phase in time, which is either a hint about their location or a hint that the “night” they use is not a time but a channel.

The envoy. A white-robed figure with a voice that 分不清男女 — cannot be distinguished as male or female — and an aura of 沧桑 (“weathered / aged, marked by long time”). This is a standard marker of high cultivation in xianxia: at sufficient level, mortal categories of sex and age become unreadable, because the body is no longer the point.

What is delivered: three moon-marked pill bottles. Taking stock, because this is a major power injection:

Attribute Value
Containers Three bottles, each marked with a moon (月)
Contents per bottle 10 pills (30 total)
Grade All 四阶佳品 — fourth-tier, superior grade
Sufficiency Enough to carry 凡道筑基 from initial stage (初期) to mid stage (中期)
Knowledge test Half of the herbs used are unknown to 白小纯

The last row is the important one. 白小纯 is a genuine 药师; the envoy’s pills are made from ingredients he cannot identify. That is the novel’s way of saying the sect operates above the known pharmacopoeia — the same trick used with the hand, the abyss, and the wall: the true scale of the world is always hinted by materials the protagonist cannot yet name.

The line that confirms surveillance. 我感受到了你筑基的波动 — “I sensed the fluctuations of your Foundation Establishment.” This retroactively explains the timing of the visit: they were tracking his cultivation progress, not scheduling on a calendar. Which means their other instructions were also progress-conditioned.

The objective, restated (now with three specifications). The mission has been stated before; this chapter sharpens it into a fixed target:

那永恒不灭之物,在血溪宗中指上,在那位中峰大长老的洞府下。

“That eternal, indestructible thing is on the middle finger of Blood Creek — beneath the cave dwelling of that 中峰 great elder.”

Unpack the three locators, because together they are a beautiful piece of puzzle design:

Locator Content Connects to
永恒不灭之物 The Eternal Indestructible Thing — the goal The 神秘宗门’s entire project; likely the same class of object as the relic-world’s prize
血溪宗中指上 On the middle finger of the sect The 中指 is the 中峰 (middle peak) — the same pun as the 尸峰/thumb naming
中峰大长老的洞府下 Under the 中峰 great elder’s cave 宋君婉’s own dwelling — the person now personally interested in 白小纯

And that is the arc’s final trap. The reader should feel the click: 白小纯 has just chosen 中峰, been given a 玉佩 by 宋君婉, and been accepted as her 护法 — which places him inside the target location, under the protection of the person whose cave conceals the objective, with an explicit assignment to reach what is buried. Every prior instruction from the sect has been a step in a plan whose last mile requires him to be exactly where he now is.

The ambiguity the chapter leaves open. 白小纯 stays silent and sweats. Specifically, he cannot determine whether the envoy noticed he is no longer 夜葬. The novel does not resolve it. The reader is left with a question that reshapes the whole arc: if the sect knows he is an impostor, then every reward and every instruction has been delivered to 白小纯 on purpose — which converts the sect from a handler into an author.

血梅少主 (XUÈ MÉI SHÀO ZHǓ) — The Blood Plum Heiress

Category: Character / nobility / internal politics

The arc’s most significant new figure, and the antagonist of its closing chapters. This entry assembles her across all her appearances in the arc.

The name. 血梅 = “Blood Plum”; 少主 = “young heir / heiress” — the designated successor title, not a rank. So: the Blood Plum Heiress. The plum (梅) is a heavy cultural signifier in Chinese aesthetics — the plum blossom is one of the Four Gentlemen (四君子), symbolizing endurance and purity precisely because it blooms in winter, in the cold, before anything else. Attaching 血 to it inverts the symbolism into something deliberately beautiful and lethal: the winter flower that blooms in blood. Which matches her exactly: an heiress whose authority comes from winter-cold power.

Who she is — the facts.

Attribute Detail
Parentage The only daughter of ancestor 无极真人 (无极老祖)
Cultivation A nine-tide 地脉筑基 (九次地脉筑基)
Appearance A blood-colored mask stamped with a plum blossom
Retinue A ten-zhang blood palanquin (血轿) borne by four black-qi 厉鬼, each at Foundation Establishment, with two rows of lantern-bearing 宫女
Position 中峰’s designated elder, and a strong contender for 中峰’s 血子 seat
Rival 宋君婉 — 中峰 great elder, co-contender for the same 血子 seat
Family tie 宋缺’s 小姑 is 宋君婉; i.e. her rival is her cousin’s aunt
Demeanor Scans people 如同看蝼蚁 — as if looking at ants
Reading Seen seated beneath the 圣丹残壁 — one of the few with the insight to use it

The mask, as institution. Note that both 白小纯 and 血梅 wear masks — his is a disguise, hers is a station. In Blood Creek a mask is what a person of insufficient rank hides behind, and what a person of maximum rank wears openly. The parallel is intentional: it tells the reader what 白小纯 is faking his way toward.

“Whatever she does is overbearing.” The novel supplies an unusually sharp piece of social observation about her:

在宗门内,血梅一向霸道,甚至她无论做什么,即便是不霸道的事情,在其他人眼里,因她的父亲是无极老祖,所以都是霸道的。在多年前,血梅就明悟了这一点,于是索性在行事上,霸道到底。

“Inside the sect, Blood Plum had always been overbearing — and indeed, whatever she did, even things that were not overbearing, looked overbearing to others, because her father was Ancestor Wuji. Years ago she understood this, and so simply went all the way with being overbearing.”

This is the arc’s most sophisticated character note. Her tyranny is partly the product of other people’s expectations — she is judged before she acts, so she stopped bothering to act otherwise. The novel is not excusing her (she orders a man killed over a bottle of blood-qi); it is pointing out that in a sect with this little trust, reputation precedes and creates behavior. It also neatly explains her three-word style at the climax.

The chapter-200 confrontation, as a scene. Assembled from the text:

  1. The provocation. 白小纯, needing blood-qi for his breakthrough, finds the one cave on 中峰 that nobody patrols — remote, apparently unused — and camps against its door, draining it with ten huge inhalations, far beyond any previous raid. What he does not know is that this cave is 血梅’s 中峰 residence, which she almost never visits because she lives on 祖峰.
  2. The treasure. The cave is not empty. Inside, at the core of a formation, sits a small blood-colored bottle stamped with a plum blossom (烙着一朵血色的梅花), pierced into a small hole that forms the formation’s center. It has been accumulating blood-qi for more than ten years, and the condensed qi has liquefied, filling most of the bottle. It is a 重宝 — a heavy treasure — and its stated purpose is to support her practice of a secret art; she is nearly ready.
  3. The damage. He drains thirty percent of it in one incense-stick’s time (一炷香), then accelerates. The bottle goes entirely empty. Worse: because the qi was stripped so fast, the bottle itself nearly destabilized — she has to run over and turn the formation to keep it from breaking.
  4. Why she notices. She has a spiritual link (心神联系) to the bottle and feels the loss from 祖峰. She assumes it is normal fluctuation, then the drain accelerates to forty percent more while she is still puzzling over it — and she stops puzzling and flies.
  5. The arrival. She crosses from 祖峰 to 中峰 as a blood-colored rainbow (长虹) at extreme speed, tearing the night air with a shriek (尖锐的破空之声) that rouses every Foundation Establishment cultivator in 中峰’s lower districts. The novel’s framing: a wave of blood-light is gathering and dyeing the sky red — and everyone reads it as a treasure about to be born (重宝出世), so they follow her to watch.
  6. The verdict. She takes in the scene — the empty bottle she spent more than ten years preparing, and the last wisp of qi she watches enter 白小纯’s body — and her hand lifts, sleeve flicks, finger points. The entire speech is three words:

杀了他。

“Kill him.”

The novel’s gloss is important: 声音冰寒,从始至终,她只说了这三个字,可从这三个字上,却透出了无比的冷漠,高高在上,如捏死蝼蚁 — “the voice was ice-cold; from beginning to end she said only these three words, and from them came absolute indifference, supreme condescension, as if pinching an ant to death.”

The three-word order as characterization. Note what the brevity accomplishes. She does not ask who he is; she does not demand repayment; she does not even perform anger in speech. In a sect whose entire aesthetic is rate-your-nature, demonic heart, she is the purest product: a person for whom a disciple draining ten years of her preparation is not an event worth a sentence. And the crowd obeys without needing reasons, because (a) her authority is absolute and (b) they have spent weeks hunting this exact blood-qi thief. She converts their private fury into her instrument with three words.

The comedy that saves him. Two beats, both 白小纯 in essence:

  1. He tries to negotiate. 血梅少主,好巧…… and then, seeing that it is going badly, offers 我可以赔偿 — I can compensate you. He is, at the moment of being sentenced to death by an ancestor’s daughter for a ten-year theft, haggling.
  2. His indignation has the wrong content. Fleeing at full speed with dozens of Foundation Establishment cultivators hurling techniques at him, his grievance is not fear but procedural fairness: 你们欺负人,有本事一个一个来和我打 — 有本事一个一个来和我打! — “You’re all bullying me! If you’re so capable, come at me one at a time!” And internally: 不就是吸了一些血气么,我是血溪宗的筑基修士啊,居然要杀我,这是逼我叛出宗门啊 — “It’s just some blood-qi — I’m a Foundation Establishment cultivator of this sect, and you want to kill me? You’re forcing me to defect!”

And the closing observation — the joke with teeth. His real offense, in his own eyes, is aesthetic plagiarism:

他觉得那血梅太霸道了,自己都说了愿意赔偿,可居然还一甩衣袖,还抬起下巴,这是属于自己的标志性动作,对方居然也会!

“Blood Plum was too overbearing — he had said he’d compensate, and she still flicked her sleeve and lifted her chin. That was his own signature move — and she could do it too!“

The 甩袖 + 抬下巴 (sleeve flick, chin lift) is indeed 白小纯’s established gesture of swaggering contempt. The novel hereby reveals that the heiress he has just enraged shares his single most characteristic mannerism — which is funny, and also a quiet statement about what kind of person survives in this sect: the arrogant ones, whether born to it or faking it.

Where the arc leaves her. She is not defeated; she is inconvenienced and insulted, with a ten-year investment destroyed and a permanent enemy declared — 夜葬, 我神算子与你不死不休 from the diviner, and 杀了他 from her, both still live. 白小纯’s vow from earlier stands on the other side: 早晚会有一天,我白小纯弹指间,让你灰飞烟灭. The chapters close with him fleeing across a 中峰 full of screaming cultivators, blood butterflies hunting him, and his own wounded sense of justice:

这里的人太坏了,还是灵溪宗好啊……那里就算天雷滚滚,酸雨降临,也只是对我扔石头,可这边,这点小事,居然就要打打杀杀,欺负人!

“The people here are awful — Spirit Creek Sect was better… there, even when thunder rolled and acid rain fell, the worst they did was throw rocks at me. Here, over a little thing like this, it’s kill, kill, kill. Bullying people!”

血子 (XUÈ ZǏ) — The Blood Son

Category: Title / succession / sect politics

A title that has been named repeatedly in this arc and deserves a consolidated entry, because it is the engine of all Blood Creek internal politics.

What the title is. 血子 — literally “Blood Son” (子 as in 儿子/弟子, a son/heir). It is the sect’s designated successor, and its acquisition is bound to the sect’s founding relic.

How it is earned, and the key detail. The novel states (ch186 area, referenced throughout) that within the 血祖巨手 — the giant hand — there is a 血晶 (blood-crystal). Whoever obtains it becomes a 血子. So the mechanism is not electoral and not purely martial: it requires entering the hand and taking the crystal. This connects the title to the same physical cosmology as everything else: 万血崖 (a wound on the hand), the healing pulse, the 不死长生功’s dependence on the hand. The sect’s succession runs through its god’s corpse.

The seat has holders, and a hierarchy above it. Two important data points:

Figure Relationship to 血子
血擘 (Blood-Thumb) A former 血子 who later reached Golden Core; now lives on the 祖峰 (thumb) and ranks above the 太上长老 and below the 老祖
血梅少主 Current strong contender for 中峰’s 血子 seat
宋君婉 The other contender for 中峰’s seat; her co-rival

血擘 is the most instructive of these. His name is punning: 擘 = “thumb”, and he lives on the thumb peak. He demonstrates that 血子 is a stepping-stone, not a summit — you take the seat, and if you go on to Golden Core, you graduate into a permanently named position on the ancestral body. The sect’s senior ranks are literally anatomical (祖峰 = the thumb; 中指 = 中峰), which is the novel’s way of stating that Blood Creek’s leadership is resident inside its own god.

Why 中峰 is the seat in play. Each peak evidently has (or can have) a 血子, and 中峰’s is contested by two of the arc’s most powerful women — the great elder 宋君婉 and the ancestor’s daughter 血梅. The novel makes the political geometry explicit through smaller details:

  • 血梅 is 中峰’s designated elder but 因与大长老不和,罕见她来此 — rarely comes to 中峰 because she does not get along with the great elder. So the peak’s two claimants barely share a room.
  • 宋君婉’s interest in 白小纯 is therefore weaponizable: she now personally holds a gifted 护法 (with a pill-master’s skills, a new zombie type, and a subdued Foundation Establishment cultivator) on her own peak, while her rival’s private residence on that same peak has just been drained empty by that same 护法.
  • 白小纯’s mission from the mysterious sect targets 宋君婉’s dwelling — so the 血子 contest, the buried relic, and 白小纯’s assignment all converge on the same cave.

The legend above it all: 血魔. 夜葬’s deathbed whisper, which 白小纯 half-believes, supplies the title’s upper limit. Above the 老祖 there is said to be 血魔 (Blood Demon): whoever obtains the mysterious inheritance inside the Blood Ancestor’s body — which also contains the 血晶 — will become 血魔 and lead Blood Creek to a miracle (带领血溪宗走向奇迹).

The crucial characterization is 白小纯’s reaction. Unlike 夜葬 and almost everyone else, who treat it as a fable, 白小纯 half-believes it: 隐隐觉得…那个通天河下的巨人,或许真的体内藏着一份非凡的传承 — “he faintly felt that the giant beneath the Tongtian River might really hold an extraordinary inheritance within its body.” He is right, and the reader knows he is right, because he has stood on that hand and felt it bleed and heal as if alive. So the arc’s political ladder (护法 → 血子 → 血擘 → 老祖 → 血魔) is not a status scale but a road into the body of a god — and 白小纯, uniquely, is already on it.

The three strands closing on one point. The arc’s design is that three independent plots converge on 宋君婉’s cave on 中峰:

  1. The mysterious sect has ordered 白小纯 to take the 永恒不灭之物 from under the 中峰 great elder’s dwelling.
  2. The 血子 contest between 宋君婉 and 血梅 pivots on holdings on exactly that peak — and 血梅’s private residence there has just been robbed.
  3. 白小纯’s own power needs blood-qi concentration, which is what drew him to that cave in the first place.

He arrives by choosing 中峰 out of a four-way recruitment auction, using playfulness as cover (我……我选择宋姐姐的中峰), and departs the arc with a standing offer of a 护法 post from 尸峰 (a 令牌), a jade pendant from 宋君婉, a new zombie type credited to his name, 30,000 contribution points, a reciprocated soul-blood servant, a secret art turned into a trump card, and two named mortal enemies in 神算子 and 血梅少主.

Related terms: all of the above.
